There’s not many Skate parks in the Salem area. In fact there are zero but there used to be one at Moyer park but it got demolished and replaced with multiple pickle ball courts. So I am one of the many people who thought it shouldn’t have been taken down.
Why it should have not been demolished
The skate park was a great place for people to hangout and have fun. You could ride on the ramps on a skateboard, scooter, and maybe even a bike. The park allowed kids to have a safe place for kids to ride as well. Not having this park any more has been terrible and has made skating more dangerous in Salem. Kids have to ride in the road and sidewalks that have too many bumps and cracks. The park had nice smooth paths and ramps to do tricks or just glide away on. Because of this choice people need to be more alert about kids, teens, and even adults on the road. This skatepark was also a historic place in Salem and was taken straight down.
Pickleball court Opinions
The pickleball courts that have replaced the skatepark have sadly been a hit among adults but not teens and kids. There are 12 of these courts in this area that you most likely could have put a new skatepark if you just took away a couple of these courts. We also already have pickleball courts by the Salem museum at Oakley park. With this change in the area houses and people walking by have experienced a loud and unpeaceful environment. There have also been reports of people getting hurt because of their participation in the sport. This also took a long time to build and cost a lot of money with it. Building a new skatepark may have been cheaper and brought in more money for Salem, but personally I would go to a city to ride a skateboard or bike at a skatepark than hit a ball a bunch of times over and over again. Now, I have some opinions on the demolition of the skatepark; Evan counts said “I didn’t even know it got demolished but it’s kinda dumb. There are already so many pickleball courts and that sport isn’t that popular. The skate park has been there for a while and it’s the only skate park I know of. Also I remember my brother, cousin, and I hanging out there and having a lot of fun.” I agree with Evan, it was the only skate park I knew of.
Make a new skatepark?
It would be amazing if Salem would build a new skatepark at Moyer Park or somewhere in Salem. It could make things a lot better and less dangerous like I said before. In conclusion, I think they should bring it back and others have agreed.
